After the Android launch, here’s the news iPhone users were waiting for: our backgammon app for iOS is live on the App Store. You can now play backgammon online on iPhone and iPad with a native app — fast, smooth and built for your screen. And it’s free to download.

What you can do in the app

Play backgammon online, in real time

An online backgammon match against a real opponent on an iPhone — Get matched with an opponent in seconds and play a full game of backgammon, right from your iPhone.

You connect with real players from around the world and start a match in seconds. The board, the dice and the moves follow the same classic international rules you already know — now in your pocket, wherever you have signal.

Climb the leaderboard — Ranked mode with ELO

A leaderboard with ELO ratings and ranked matches in the iOS backgammon app — Ranked mode with an ELO rating and a win–loss record, plus a relaxed Casual mode.

For the competitive crowd: the app has a Ranked mode with an ELO rating and a leaderboard you climb as you win. Just want to unwind? Casual mode is there for low-pressure games.

Power-ups during the game

Re-Roll, Joker and Lucky Dice power-ups in the online backgammon app — Re-Roll, Joker and Lucky Dice — a little extra strategy when you need it.

Re-Roll, Joker and Lucky Dice give you a small edge at the key moments. You use them when you want, without changing the core rules of the game.

Chat while you play

In-game chat during an online backgammon match on an iPhone — Say hi to your opponent and trade a few messages without leaving the match.

Backgammon has always been a social game. You can swap a few messages with your opponent right from the match — a friendly “hi” or a “well played” at the end.

Play on a single device too

Single-device mode: two players on the same iPhone — Pass the phone back and forth and play face to face, no internet needed.

With a friend over coffee? Put the phone on the table and play on the same device, taking turns. No second account, no internet connection required.

How to install the app

Open the App Store listing on your iPhone or iPad.
Tap Get and wait a few seconds.
Open the app and start your first match.

If you’re reading this on your iPhone, you’ll also see a “Play” banner at the top of the site that takes you straight to the App Store.

On Android or prefer the browser?

The app is on Android too — see the Android announcement. Don’t want to install anything? The web version runs natively in your phone’s browser — play directly in the browser.
