Flags, streaks and a clock at the table: Gammon42 1.1.0

Gammon42 1.1.0 adds country flags, daily streak rewards, profile rewards, a visible turn timer, disconnect alerts, Serbian and a smoother shop.

announcement August 3, 2026

Version 1.1.0 is our biggest update since launch, and most of it is about making the time around your games count. You can now fly your country’s flag at the board, earn power-ups just for showing up day after day, and see exactly how long is left on a turn.

Fly your flag at the table

Backgammon is played in almost every country on earth, so it always felt wrong that everyone looked the same at the board. Now you can pick your country in your profile, and your flag appears next to your name — on your profile and at the table while you play.

Don’t want to pick a country? You don’t have to. You can choose a region instead — Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, North America, South America or Oceania — or stay on World, with no flag at all. The picker has a search box, so finding your country takes a second.

Daily streak rewards

Playing regularly now pays. Every day you come back, your daily streak goes up, and along the way you unlock power-ups you can claim with a tap.

The streak runs in cycles, so there’s always a next reward in sight. The new streak strip shows you at a glance which days you’ve already claimed, which one is ready right now, and which are still locked ahead of you. Miss a day and the streak resets — that’s the point — but the rewards start coming back immediately.

Get rewarded for finishing your profile

There’s a new Complete your profile roadmap with four steps, each one worth power-ups:

  • Set a username, so opponents see you and not a random ID.
  • Add a profile photo.
  • Pick your country — that new flag.
  • Link an account (Google or Apple), so your progress survives a new phone.

Claim each reward as you finish the step. And if you’d rather just play, there’s a Don’t remind me button — we stop nudging you and the rewards keep waiting.

A clock you can actually see

Turns have always had a time limit. Now you can see it: a visual countdown runs on whoever’s turn it is, so nobody is left guessing whether their opponent is thinking hard or has walked away from the phone.

And if you’re the one who disappears — a phone call, a tunnel, a dying battery — the app now sends you a notification: “Don’t lose your game! Return to the game within X seconds or you’ll forfeit.” A lot of abandoned games are just players who never realised they’d dropped. Now you get a chance to come back.

Serbian, and a “What’s new” screen

Gammon42 now speaks Serbian. That makes eight languages: English, Romanian, German, Turkish, Greek, Polish, Spanish and Serbian.

We also added a What’s new dialog that appears once after an update, so you no longer discover a feature by accident three weeks after it shipped.

Shop, cube and the small stuff

  • Purchases are far more reliable. We rewrote how receipts are validated on the server and fixed several cases where a purchase could stall. The shop also has a proper Restore Purchases button now.
  • The doubling cube moved onto the board holder, where it belongs — and the end-of-game screen finally explains it: “Doubling cube reached ×4, so this game counted for 4× more.”
  • The offline banner no longer blocks local games — you don’t need a connection to play the AI on your own device.
  • Clearer matchmaking labels, a tidier streak dialog, and a long list of small fixes and polish throughout the app.

How to get the update

If you have Gammon42 installed, your phone will update automatically, or you can grab 1.1.0 now from your app store. Prefer the browser? You can play backgammon online for free — no download, no account, straight in your browser.
